Tampa Bay Fishing Off – the – Hook!
Tampa Bay Fishing has been amazing the past few weeks. It’s just like fishing in the height of spring. Live bait is available, and the fish are ready to eat. We’ve been fishing both the open flats and the mangrove lines, depending on tide and time of day. Free-lining live sardines just can’t miss. I’m still very surprised that some of the bigger snook are roaming the open flats. The water temps are running around 70 degrees, and actually warm during the day to the low 70s. These slight temperature differences are enough to make the fish pile up in certain areas. The deeper sand / grass pothole areas are producing best. The redfish are definitely around as well. Again, live bait and chumming will get them fired up. The key is also finding some quiet water away from the typical boat parades that form up on schools of redfish. You’ll see them. Bait is beginning to make its way to the flats, but the best bait remains in deeper water – so bring your big, heavy net. It’s a workout, but it’s worth it. I’m hearing reports from a lot of guys that the snook and redfish just aren’t around yet – that’s not true! Join me for a Tampa Bay Fishing trip and we’ll prove them wrong.
