March 2018 Tampa Bay Inshore Fishing Report

spring snook tampa bay, tampa bay charter fishing, tampa bay inshore chartersTampa Bay spring fishing is heating up – again – and I think this time it’s here until summer.  March was a month of up and down temperatures and we did experience a fair amount of below-normal temperatures.  Fishing had really taken off in February, then the cold temps in March slowed it a bit.  But, the good news is, it’s back.  Bait is returning and the inshore fishing is hot!  Snook, redfish, and trout are all available.  Snook are really stealing the show lately.  We are getting a few slot fish and a bunch of 20 to 24″ fish.  They are strong fighters and are really fun on light tackle.  Redfish are also showing up in better numbers.  That’s great news as these hard-pullers are a real blast to catch – and great to eat!  We’re targeting the moving tides and using mostly live baits.  Artificial baits are also a great alternative if you don’t feel like catching or buying live bait.  I love the Gulp shrimp in 3″ pearl white.  Nothing beats it, and everything eats it.  You can cover a lot of water tossing artificial baits.  Live bait chumming is a great way to fire up the mangrove lines and make otherwise unresponsive fish want to eat.  Don’t miss out on the best action of the year.  Days and slots are getting tight, so schedule soon.  Summer heat will be on us all too soon!  Tight lines and stay safe out there.
