Tampa Bay Fishing Charter FAQ

Here you can find the answers the most common Tampa Bay Fishing Charter questions.  If you don’t see your questions, you can email the captain with your question.

How long to Tampa Fishing Charters usually last?

During a Tampa Bay Fishing Charter, we typically fish 4 to 5 hours, but trips can be extended at the customer’s request.

What type of bait do we normally use?

We normally use live bait – usually scaled sardines – which are small minnow-like fish.  If those aren’t available, we may use live shrimp.  Time of year will generally determine what live bait is available.

What are the typical target species for a Tampa inshore fishing charter?

The big three target species are snook, redfish, and spotted sea trout.  Tarpon are also a big target during the late spring and summer months.  Most of our target species are available year-round, but colder weather will effect availability.  The Captain can let you know what’s biting for your time of year.

How long has Tampa Bay Inshore Charters been operating?

Tampa Bay Inshore Charters has been in operation since 2004.  Capt. Scott Keith has been fishing the waters of Tampa Bay for more than 35 years.

How big is the boat and how far offshore do we go?

The boat is 21 feet long and 8 feet wide.  It’s a great, stable fishing platform that can fish four anglers comfortably.  We really don’t go “offshore”.  We generally fish within the confines of Tampa Bay.  Water depths where we fish will range from 5 feet to less than 2 feet.  Tampa Bay Inshore Charters specializes in shallow-water, inshore fishing.  If you’re looking for big-game, blue water fishing, we don’t go there.

How far in advance should I book my trip?

I always advise clients to book a specific date as early as possible.  Some times of year, such as spring and fall, are busier than others.  The Captain will do everything he can to accommodate your desired dates.  He may refer you to another highly-qualified captain if your date is booked.  Capt. Scott works with a select few captains in the area to ensure your 100% satisfaction.
